My Story

I am running the 2026 London Marathon in aid of St Helena Hospice.

On the 3rd of June 2025, my beautiful mum Vivien lost her long battle with Frontal Lobe Dementia. She had been non-verbal for many years, but took a turn for the worse in October 2024 when she lost the ability to use her legs. Mum was now housebound and bed ridden. With the help of St Helena Hospice and many other agencies, my dad and I were able to ensure mum stayed at home where she loved being. We were lucky enough to have so much support from so many people, and St Helena Single point Nurses were always on the end of the phone when ever we needed them.

That time came on the 3rd of June 2025 when mum took a very quick and rapid decline in health. They were there straight away to help put in place the palliative care for mum. Making sure she was as comfortable as possible in what we thought would be her last days/weeks. They respected that we wanted mum at home with us, surounded by love. We had so many questions. Richard the Nurse, who was calm and amazing, answering every one of those questions and telling us the process. Little did we know that a few hours later whilst I popped home to freshen up, mum would pass away peacefully with dad holding her hand. To say we are heart broken is an understatment. But we are so thankful that were able to keep mum at home and make her last hours at home comfortable with the help of St Helena Hospice, the paramedics and mums care team.

As I take on my first official Marathon event, and my dream of running the London Marathon. There will be some high's and lows. But please follow my journey over the next 10 months to see how I get on. Any spare pennies you can give to this wonderful charity would be so greatly apprciated.
